Passages
Where is the world we once knew?
Remember the time of future’s joy
When children played in streets
And fathers groomed their lawns
As mothers warmed the home and heart
How we planned for all the days
And travelled to see wonders
As families journeyed together
And friends gathered for strength
Remember the time of laughter’s folly
When music filled all the halls
Excitement soared on wings
And carried us all away in song
How we slept the days away!
And made the night our kingdom
As friends became brothers
And brothers created together
Remember the time of merriment
As man and woman begin a life
With hope rested faithfully in heart
Looking always ahead with purpose
How we could not be dulled
When stock and effort built a home
And love heated our beds
Feeling that now will be as always
Remember the time of nation’s hope
Where peoples banded together
As neighbours protected one another
And Respect ruled communities
How we lived in such peace
Joined together in celebrations
Trusted servants were trustworthy
And our dreams became reality
Dare I say it is in our hearts still
Though our dreams have turned dark
Where fear destroyed a faith
And greed devoured our courage
And this that they would now not know
Of all that was before divine
Offering chains as earned freedom
And silence as rightful speech
The people are silenced in self!
The nations know not of each other
Truth is as a hidden gem
While the forked tongue riddles
But to a man is there grace
And of woman is there choice
For even in the darkest hour
Is the love of God seen in them
Let our heads be sober
And our hearts be of forgiveness
For the lesson of the time
Is ultimately the lesson of LIFE
Let our soul be comforted
And our spirits in serenity found
For the gratitude of passages
Is ultimately the path to God
