Treasures

That which is as treasure to the spirit
Is free upon the earth
That which nourishes the soul
Cannot be wagered

For man has put a price on the very air
That these would be forgotten
Wound down to toil recompense
Competing inside our own flesh

Yet all goodness eludes the wicked
And is given freely to the poor
In the message of love reside
Liberty exposed truth

What profits a man
That his bones be comforted
While his heart be locked up?

What life of a man
That his eyes be darkened
By the glare of fools gold?

Look to me
And see I am nothing
For my treasure is hidden
My vault is a mystery
The keys cannot be held
By the hands of flesh
Indeed it is not known to consider
Even unto the master thief

That thou wisdom of pride
In all things which perish
Does reveal thy open foolishness
Eludes only the world

For the gift of the spirit
Harbours mountains of fine silver
In the smile of the former lost soul

The greatness of the everlasting jewel
Is unbreakable between spirits
And what is given returns greater
Than what was received.
And what was received returns greater
Than what was accepted.
And what was shared is added to both
In the cherished blessing observed

Power and wealth and pleasures of man
Indeed how they present our steps
Lo, it is the heart which chooses the path
Of destitution
Or of growth

Yet even the poorest of the earth
Has wealth beyond these
And even the wretched of the earth
Has wisdom beyond these
For theirs is a kingdom
No scoffer can bare witness
And theirs is an everlasting fountain
The world cannot find

Though there it is in plain sight
Within the gates of all men who love God.
