The Liar

The Nature of the Liar: The poem explores the insidious nature of the Liar, a voice that defines the indefinable, distorts self-perception, and undermines our true identity. This voice questions our worth and perpetuates the belief that we are limited and defined by others.

Self-Discovery vs. External Definitions: It emphasizes the struggle between external definitions imposed by others and the inner truth of our indefinable nature. The Liar thrives on creating doubt and isolation, pushing individuals to seek validation from outside sources instead of embracing their true selves.

Interpersonal Relationships: The poem addresses how the Liar influences relationships, causing misunderstandings and miscommunications. It illustrates how we project our fears and insecurities onto others, thus distorting the truth of our connections and leading to unnecessary conflicts.

The Cycle of Lies: It highlights the cyclical nature of these lies, how they lead to self-deception, and how individuals can become liars themselves, perpetuating the cycle of mistrust and fear. The consequences of believing the Liar can result in eroding trust and love within relationships.

Choice and Empowerment: Ultimately, the piece calls for self-awareness and the power of choice. It challenges readers to confront the Liar and choose to embrace their true essence, reminding them that they possess the authority to either succumb to self-imposed limitations or embrace the fullness of their identity as part of the Living Indefinable Everything.

The Liar

How many times I have listened to the voice of the Liar.
How many ways it has spoken to me.

THIS is how
This IS how
This is HOW

it lies.

To all that which is indefinable, it defines.
To all that which is unknown, it speaks of knowing.

Even our greatest question,
even our most cherished journey is a lie!
When man reaches into the universe
and sees the reflection of himself in it he asks;
“Is this all that I am, is there nothing more?”

Man indefinable,
from Spirit indefinable,
in a universe indefinable,
even from a God who defies concrete definition,
says only “I AM”

A son on earth just the same as us on earth
of flesh and blood and breath
in reflection
speaks only in parables of truth,
of the truth indefinable,
and a Father indefinable,
and a world indefinable but in a song.
Concepts, ideas, patterns of rhythm to enlighten the soul.

What we see, and know, and believe of ourselves,
is NOT who we are,
we are everything more,
we are everything indefinable.

Then here is the voice of the lie
who asks who we are
and says who we are
and speaks of who everyone else is
and what everyone else wants.

OH how this one lies so powerfully
about everyone and everything and every want.

The voice speaks to us all…
“they only want you for their want!”
They only know you for what they want to see
They only see you as they think you are
They even speak and define everything about you to your face!

How dare another tell ME who I am,
when I myself ask…
“Is this all that I am, is there nothing more”

And that is where we got to that question in the first place.

Ignorant have we ALL been at times.
In truth it is not the Spirit of Man that Lies,
for it is from a Greatness
In truth it is not the Spirit of Woman that Lies,
for it also comes from a Greatness.
In truth it is the Spirit of the Liar who lies
and causes us to blame each other.

How perfect and circular are the lies we believe.
How powerfully we erode our own lives because of them.
How masterfully we convict another with our own faith at the lies.
How slowly we torture ourselves and others
to be confined to the feelings we now have
because our ear was given to the lies.

Then we ourselves become the Liar.
And we go to our lovers
and go to our friends
and go to our families,
and tell them what they deny us,
and tell them who they are,
and tell them how they CAN be,
and tell them what we believe of them.

We define them as we have come to fear of them.
We tell them what they have taken from us,
and how we have lost faith in them and how we no longer believe them…
because our lies have proven to US,
that the other person is a Lair.

Yet how many times have we believed the liar
who told us that our friend did not care about us?
How many times did we not see them there in our lives beside us,
because all we could see was the lie that they did not see us?
How many times did we block ourselves from ever knowing their heart,
because we believed they had no interest in ours?

And then we live a life,
seeking what we can get,
seeking what we can have,
seeking what we believe is DUE US…
instead of giving everything we love.

The liar lies
so that we will withhold everything from everyone
in order to get something that we don’t know we already have.
The liar hates us
because he cannot have what is ours,
ever, under any circumstance,
in his reality.
All he can try is to convince us
that we do not have what we already have,
and that we are not all that we already are.

HEAR him in the mirror when he tells you what an idiot you are.
HEAR him in the shower when he tells you how to fight with another.
HEAR him in the world when they look at you and define you.
HEAR him in yourself when you define another.

Or… hear the truth.

Of which two do you desire to believe?
To be a nothingness of littleness and pointless self imposed human limitation?
Or do you instead wish to be a Child of the Living Indefinable Everything?

He who chooses death does so with great authority.

He who chooses life does so with great authority.
