Mustard Seed
The life of man is but a puff of smoke
To the earth as she has hosted
The life of man is but a single note
To the song of the universe voice
The life of man is but a passing idea
To the Eternal that has witnessed all
Who are we oh Creator of all
That You would put your eyes upon us?
Who are we that Your heart provides
A truth, and peace, and grace eternal?
Who are we that Your love never fails
For these souls of little time?
How the sages have wondered
As philosophers gaze upon the stars!
How the mighty have sought
While the learned have not found!
How the righteous have claimed
Knowing not their foolish words!
Grace upon grace upon grace
And love upon love upon love
Three times have we mixed
And three times have we become.
How wonderful Father to be your son
As we form in the womb of the earth
Finding each day a new education
Rising each day to new understanding
Sharing each day with your children
Walking each day towards our birth
As life began in waters calm
Embraced by mother’s hope
As life sprang forth to earthen rock
Touched by sun and moon
As life is Born by Spirit’s gift
We await Your appointed time
For all we know and all we see
We are as babes unborn in flesh
Yet the servant of our protection
Turned away from Your command
With diligence You sent a message
With spite did he ignore
With haste You sent another
With rage he did obliterate
So in Your love You sent a Brother
With power He did redeem!
I shall not waste my days of choice
Nor frown upon this path of folly
As the seed puts to the ground
Only then its burial awakens fruit
I shall not turn my eyes from truth
Nor abandon your precious gift
For he who sent us all astray
Could not hide Your love of us
How wonderful to be Your son
And await the true life you provide
As this skin falls away to the next
With each growing day of Spirit
Until such time we enter life
From the exit of man we prepare!
