Man’s Work and God’s Love
I tried all things in seeking answers
My hand was put to many tasks
From one to the next was all given
With effort and time and money
There was no lack
yet all was fleeting
Still was found no peace
Still was found no answer
I acquired all things in seeking answers
My home was filled with treasures
From trinkets to rare values
With care and pride we built
There was no lack
yet all was lost
Still was found no peace
Still was found no answers
I explored ancient texts in seeking answers
My hand was put to knowledge
From one idea to the next was all considered
With effort and time and interest
There was no lack
yet all was confusing
Still was found no peace
Still was found no answers
I engaged to be a better man in seeking answers
My hand opened my heart with good things
From friend to family to fellow welcome
With effort and love and time
There was no lack
Yet all was misunderstood
Still was found no peace
Still was found no answers
So I cried out to God!
What’s the point to it all?
I love and it is not known
I share and it is not understood
I give and it is not received
I offer and it is denied
I seek and I have not found!
What is it that we do have oh God?
For all things of earth pass away
All things of work are meaningless
All things of desire lead to ruin
All things of man deconstructs
All hope and concern is fleeting
All righteousness is scattered!
And there did I find what I sought!
For in the seeking had I forgotten God
And I had done all things
Of myself
By myself
For myself
With my own reason
And there did God show me Himself
That with God I would see peace
and with God I would have answers
and with God I would know value
And with God would all things be made right
For with the eyes of God’s grace
Does the tasks become of worth
and the aquiring become of blessing
and the exploration reveals truth
and the engagement becomes everlasting love
As our hearts feel the peace
and our minds comprehend the answers
I alone have a lone vision of flesh
But with the spirit of God’s love
is the vision of all eternity
the vision of all beauty
the vision of all purpose
the vision of all meaning
the vision of all hope
the vision of all acceptance
the vision of all peace
the vision of all grace
the vision of all joy
and the vision of all that love is meant to be
There has been and always will be
only one thing I have and need
and that is God
For with God I have all things
But with myself, even everything
Means nothing.
