The Struggle Between Light and Darkness – The poem explores the eternal conflict between truth and deception, good and evil, and how both the righteous and the wicked are drawn to the light for different reasons—some to embrace it, others to corrupt or curse it.

True Joy Comes from God’s Truth – Those who walk in the light of God find joy, peace, and revelation, while those who dwell in darkness are consumed by lies, sorrow, and destruction. The contrast highlights the fulfillment found in divine truth versus the emptiness of deception.

The Deception of False Light – Many believe they have seen the light, only to later reject it because it was not truly from God but rather a deceptive form of righteousness. This speaks to the dangers of pride, self-deception, and the false guidance of darkness disguised as truth.

The Choice Between Life and Death – The poem presents life as a choice—one can either grow in the eternal light of God or wither in the bitterness of self-centered mortality. The perception of death and suffering is revealed as an illusion created by rejecting divine truth.

God’s Light Brings Ultimate Redemption – The transformative power of God’s light cleanses, restores, and brings everlasting joy. Those who truly find it never regret it, while those who reject it remain trapped in sorrow. The final triumph of light over darkness is assured, as death itself is exposed as a lie.

Who finds themselves in darkness
While doing what is good?

As he performs the will of life
Does his heart sing with joy
Even to his bones does he declare
And even the flesh rejoices in it

It is not with pride or greatness
That the worker tills the soil
But with humility and gladness
At the gift he has been given by God

Who plants in darkness
And builds without sight?
Who sings without a voice
And dances to music without ears?

Even the wicked chase the light
Looking always for it to curse
Hiding themselves in lies and cover
For fear of discovery of their intent

Even the darkness seeks out the light
That it may bring troubles to it
As darkness is a dwelling of brutal trouble
So too does it spew trouble away from itself

That it may drink in even more!

For the love of lies is greater
Than the love of truth
And the desire for pain greater
Than the want of peace

Who turns away their desire
Or casts sorrow onto their want?
As the workers of darkness produce chaos
It is from their love of sorrow

Who can create peace
While loving wrath and terror?
Who can make well
While drunk on the blood of their pride?

A living thing stands
Either in the sunlight of the eternal life
Growing and bonding and enhancing
Or it crawls
In the darkness of its selfish mortality
Withering with bitter jealousy of truth

And for no reason but a lie

By the following of all that is light
Does the child dwell always in light
And he who has known the light
Of all, not one speaks of their regret

As he who regrets, knew not the light
But given belief of what he agreed was light
Deceived by darkness and pride
Of a thing not of God, but of darkness
Appearing as light
A form of righteousness and spirit
So that he says “I knew the light and hated it”
That he would not know God
But himself alone
Just as designed by the darkness
Of his own want of hate!

Who that has known true light
Would choose blindness in darkness?
Seeing nothing, stumbling and alone
Accepting his own deception gladly
Over the wonder of sight
In every step of his life, exploring
Witness to all greatness, and beauty
and the life and love all around him?

For of all who actually knew darkness
And all manner of evil and horror
Drinking in all terror and drunk with wrath
Who then later found the light
Of all, every one speaks of their joy
In finding the Light!

The light of God is a great cleansing
A release and hope profound
And peace and contentment
It is everlasting before us and after us

The darkness is sorrow and regret
Anger and fear and wrath
plotting always against others
seeking every way to make itself just

It is death that would punish the pure heart
For a time – as it is a lie itself
And bring punishment to the act of love
For God is the enemy of death
Because there is no death
Except your choice to live in a lie
And the perception of what isn’t true
That you would experience a false reality
Of hatred and pain and death
Which feels real – and is not!

For there is only life
And there is only God

And while he in good heart plants in light
Walking with the truth of God
Is all revealed of his former folly
And the gifted harvest ahead of blessings
And it is joy for him to see!
And while God lives always and forever
Does the lie of death, die – forever
