Forgiving Spirit
When darkness falls on the land
My spirit seeks the Great Spirit
And when darkness falls upon my soul
My spirit struggles to seek
How long we do strive with skin and bones!
Aches and pains, hungers and thirsts
Fear and resentment, guilt and condition
But in the realm of spirit it is not so
For in an instant may we recall a former joy
And in that moment we again feel that joy
Just as in a moment we can recall a crime
And in that instant feel anger for another
But my bones they forget not their harm
And they speak endlessly for themselves
Neither does my pride excuse insolence
And it justifies its own wrath with law
Therefore my spirit forgets not forgiveness
Nor do I withhold humility from the plan
For of my bones there is no peace
Yet the spirit IS peace beyond measure
To remember the spirit of God
Is to remember the very heart of my intent
For in the putting away of my flesh will
Does a new law form within my desire
Before me is vast valleys of beautiful grass
And sunshine always warming comfort
The wind is welcome and cool with breeze
And the voice of peace speaks freely
There in calling upon God am I awakened
The worlds sickness falls away
My own wrath vanishes and is made light
My flesh and wants do not concern me
I hear the wisdom of a thousand priests
Ministering as one voice of grace
I am open and withhold nothing of truth
And all is accepted with love regardless
I see a brother – he approaches often here
He sometimes sits besides me and listens
But when he speaks I am made new
His message fills my heart with relief
There is no fear, no worry, no sorrow
This is a place our spirit lives
Though I am still bound to flesh
In this moment I live in a new Kingdom
All that had perplexed and wounded
Is cleansed and illuminated with truth
Perspective of all matters become changed
I find it easy to forgive my enemies
To this end must I account
When darkness overcomes my soul
Is it made difficult to wish for peace
As the bones cry out for war
So to me and to all must I account
That in a moment of blindness
May I remember my true desire
Found there always in my heart… for God
That is what darkness wishes to conceal!
That we know not ourselves
Nor even our own true spirit
For in blindness we cannot see Love
God is love
And it takes only a little desire to reach
Just a moment of honest calling
And we can remember goodness
Come to the valley of Gods peace
And seek your spirit within
For our flesh experiences many things
But our spirit is the one who bares witness
He is the voice in me that wants peace
As all spirit is of God – even ours
So too is our desire for peace a good one
For all things of God are good.
I forgive my brothers and sisters
And I forgive myself
Even my judgement of God is made clear
As God has also forgiven them and me
Darkness transforms to light
And wisdom answers all my doubt
While love and grace smiles with knowing
And I am fed good food for this journey
To eat am I fed
And to drink am I quenched
Likewise to forgive am I forgiven
And to desire love is love desired for me
