Daily Cross
Daily rise the denial of self
Daily open the lesson of self
Daily humble the offering of self
Daily acceptance the receiving of God
They who desire to walk with Christ
Are as those baptized not once
But in every day
For daily is commanded our cross
And daily is lived our God
Have I ate and drank but once?
Have I worked the land but once?
Have I awoken to life but once?
Have I spoke of my love but once?
Have I prayed to God but once?
Arise oh men who call on God
Rebuke your fearful pride
Share with your fellow what is learned
Remember your Father who loves you
Make offering of self unto Him
Upon awakening we call on God
And whenever the self exerts
For every moment is anew
Each passage of time offers darkness
But He who is trusted, makes a way
As any man can manage a day
But no man can challenge darkness
For the flesh works not with light
Nor does it perceive of spiritual food
Required it is of God’s source
Thus we surrender our self daily
And ask for God’s Holy Spirit
That we become the empty vessel
That what was revealed is cast out
That the emptiness may receive God
For where does our God go uninvited?
As the righteous wait on God
So too does God wait on the unrighteous
For to us it is given to choose
And for us to decide of life or death
There is no righteousness of self
Nor perfection of our works found
Indeed the greatest is as a fool
Without God are we beset in ourselves
And without God have we no power
Of ourselves alone we have pride
And lies we make to justify self
That we think our will is pure
That we believe our way to be good
Yet this way perishes to nothingness
With God do we have power over self
That our stumbling becomes strength
That our weakness becomes love
That our blindness becomes light
And our deaths become life
For the spirit of God
Is not subject to darkness
Nor is any man in darkness with God
For God is the light of our path
And His way do we swiftly approve
Give your struggles to God
Let Him stand in your heart
Where you once stood alone
For of this was a lie to ourselves
And another had taken a hold of us
With God then our flesh is a joy
And we may walk in the sunlight
And our table is filled with love
As we see the spirit in others
That they themselves may yet not
With God our visions become clear
And we are not fettered with doubt
For our selfish perspective is gone
And our personal ambitions laughable
For we have new eyes to see a new life
With God our hearing is cleared
And we are not fettered with shame
For our ears seek not self praise
And our mouth fears not truth
For we have ears to hear Gods love
Yes to follow God as I have chosen
Must I do so daily, hourly, by minute
For if I depart from opening to God
Has my house become empty of light
And darkness once again enters in
