Living God

Magnify Yourself my God
For while I am weak
It must be so

What is a man if his God lives not?
Or when torment comes, has not God?
When as I am is anger and fear
Must there be Life found elsewhere

Bless Yourself my Lord and Father
For while I am dust and corruption
It must be You are whole

Could it mean anything at all
If all my praises come only in joy
And in laughter?
Where would there be truth in me
If all my faith comes only in peace
and in blessings?

As I too question God
Before His own Throne
And press upon God my distrust
When I am in torment and wrath
So too must I also acknowledge God
And witness to His authority

When as I am, is a fallen fortress
And my eyes find no place of beauty
When the blood of my flesh boils
And the heart within me faints from distress
Then too shall I praise what is Holy
And call to what is Pure and Righteous
Then too shall I bless my God
And sing honourable words of my fellows

For what is a man who speaks goodness
Only when dwelling within goodness?
Of what authority is his intent and message
If kindness only comes from him
After receiving kindness himself?

My God lives, though I die to terror
And my God grows, though I wither
God’s light shines, even as I am in darkness

For even in darkness is truth, truth
And even in faithlessness, does faith endure
And even in isolation, are others in unity
And even while I am blind, does God see

How worthy are my words
If not spoken while in pain and sorrow?
As it is not that God is without power
When it is I who am powerless
Nor when I am lost and confused
Does the greatness of Life cease

I am powerless and without sight
My ears are deaf to the song of Life
My flesh betrays my every step
My heart is buried in doubt
My mind has become a prison of ignorance

But to the point of all earnest trust
And with the purpose of all authenticity
That without hope, without vision, without faith
That without gain, and without comfort
Where the spirit fails, and the soul is vain
Shall I cry out to Bless my Father in Heaven
Shall I offer my own desire for God
Shall I sing of God’s greatness and strength
Shall I help my fellows to seek Him

As God is God regardless of the world
And Life is Life despite the lies of man
I Shall desire always to know God’s wisdom
And dream always to rest in God’s home
Where visions of my fellows live in eternal joy
And I may know they have found peace
As God Himself is magnified in Honor

That even while mute of all prosperity
I too may speak that God may prosper

That even while without
When I have forgotten the grace of love
Shall I proclaim and bless and sing
That God lives ever more.
