Lament of the Lost
To Thee I lift mine eyes, oh Father
Unto Thee I bare my soul
With shame and sorrow I kneel before the Heavens
With fear I tremble before Your universe
With a broken heart I feel too low to bother Thee
How arrogant am I?
From the land of confusion is my voice
From the place of damnation is my spirit.
From the darkened heart I hold my candle
From the lost tribe, I too am lost
How I miss my brother’s word
How I miss his powerful humility
How I miss the truth found in his lips
How my spirit is of little faith
My God, how am I too hold on and to remain open?
I beg not for your answers
Yet there are none but you to turn to
My God, discern my shadow from your light
All that is in me of grace; is your grace
All that is in me of charity; is your charity
All that is in me of faith is your faith
All that is in me of goodness is your goodness
These are not of my character, but of your character
These are not of mine to be proud, but of yours to be proud
These are not mine to hold, but to give as you have given
These are not mine to be puffed up, but to be humble
What is mine is foolishness and selfishness
What is mine is confusion and lies
What is mine is arrogance and loathing
What is mine is self-importance, and self-pity
Though I have desired to know thee my Father,
I have forgotten you
Though I have desired to be as you are,
I have been as the accuser
Now in this abyss of misunderstanding, I accuse myself
But I shall hang on to the idea of you
I shall always hope to find your righteousness in me
