Before Sleep
The time it calls to remind us all
Of that which is good and just
For the eyes do see the folly of man
And the ears are filled with noise
What does it profit us to complain?
For what is will be and has been
What does it profit us to resist?
For what was is not what we have
When do we remember our neighbor?
As our brothers and sisters they are!
When do we remember our kindness?
As our world justifies its own violence
Let me remember this my God
That my choice determines life
Let me forget this my God
That my mind knows what is true
For of my flesh do I desire
And of the mind does it judge
Oh How the bones they do curse
As pride awakens without notice
So let it be that I remember God
For the source of all life is needed
So let it be that I call on God
For the man forgets his source
And of goodness have I known
Of all wonders and marvels revealed
And of goodness have I seen
Of all beauty and awesome delight
And of goodness have I heard
Of all grace and love and redemption
And of goodness have You shared
That we may know of Your purpose for all
Enlighten me oh God from all darkness
Tear away the selfish soul in me
Cast away the borders of hell within
Rebuke the unwelcome spirit
Awaken me to Your truth my God
That I may walk with you where you go
For my brothers and sisters need life
And others to lift them from their fall
The world could be saved in a moment
With Your full power made known on earth
Remind us of Your loving gift
Restore us from our delusion
Repair the eyes and ears of mankind
That we may once again know goodness.
For these are we grateful
That You reveal justice
Even when justice is absent
That You give love
Even when love is forgotten
That you give truth
Even when all is hubris in me.
Thank you Father
For Your protection and care
Thank you for Your peace
