The Promise of Home in God’s Kingdom – The closing stanzas celebrate the reality of God’s home, a place of joy, family, and absolute truth. In seeking Him, the speaker is never truly alone, for the heart’s yearning for God is already a step toward His embrace.

Away

(A Psalm of Ryan)

How far my God are Thee to me?

Though always present and of everything
Does my heart scrape against empty walls
of lost visions and honourable words of You
That it were not so – I do pray always

How can it be this sadness within
When known to me is You?
How does one find this darkness
While running far away from it?

For I hear the chambers echo
Call back its mockery
Of what once was those moments
Filled with the love of my Fathers blessing

For I see the memories light
Vanish before my very eyes
Of what once was those precious joys
Filled with the blessing of my Fathers love

For I feel the drowning waters
Pour into my hearts deep sorrow
Of truths given to me with strength
That I squander in a moment of fear

For I touch the madness of isolation
That old liars tale believed with faith
Convincing horror irresistible to man
Of senses unholy desired pride

Do I not seek to find You in every breath of air
In every blade of grass
In every voice upon the wind
In every brother and sister before my life?
Do I not seek you always?

Yet it is I who fall prey to my own distain
That again I do experience what cannot be
This moment without the strength of God
And the reek of the enemy’s breath upon me

Yet it is I who without cause
Would stumble into delusion
Just as the folly of that long ago
Rises up within as depraved justice

Yet it is I who is away
While even God is within my very bones
And it is I who went astray
While even I am within God’s very hands

How long Father shall this reliance of self
Destroy these gifted moments
That I would dwell in the darkness of affliction
Deceived upon me by my own doubt?

I call out for Your promise
I cry out for Your Shepherd
I reach out from the trap of my own design
For I am far from home, and cannot see

Embrace me my God, as Your child
Return Your truth to my heart
And the sweet words of Your law to my ear
Give power to my bones to walk uprightly
And the nourishment of Your wisdom to guide me

Tear away the chains I placed upon myself
And carry me in Your arms back to Your home
Where there I am safe and among the living
Where there I am surrounded by Your great Majesty

For in the halls of Your palaces and vineyards
Are every delight and every joy discovered
Where each and every one are Family and Loved
And Your words speak always that gentle grace of truth

For in the reality of my desire to be with You
Am I never alone or without hope
For in the absoluteness of Your life
Am I never drawn to look…
