A Time for Rest – Love Returns
Turn my heart to love again
For it hardened by great angers
Turn my eyes to beauty again
As I grew cold from lack of sight
Open me again to passions
Sealed up has been my stance
Open the gates of my desire
Before the rust settles in forever
Oh God have I squandered your gifts
And stolen from the one you gave
For my spirit was torn by world war
At the falling of man all around me
Look and see the distractions of life
How villainy & deceit consumed us
The world relented not its sorrow
Shaken off the path of life by fear
And here I find myself dried up
Of all that once flowed freely
As the echo of Solomon reminds
Of our only true portion on earth
Here I find myself alone in pain
No song to sing with joyousness
Here I find my love in towers
Hidden in forest of the former glory
Indeed the work You gave to give
Was ordained to be my focus
In zeal did I pursue Your lesson
To share the work You laid before me
But now my flesh remembers always
The most blessed beauty of her
The power we share between us
And the grace known only with two
Bring mercy back unto these bones
Restore the tenderness of my voice
Let my kiss awaken all my promises
And my arms again protect with care
Let my eyes shine bright before her
And my smile bring welcome joy
Open again the channel of my strength
Provide the life I once gave freely
For all I have done far east to west
And every life I chose to live
Exploring every path a man can walk
Ended always with the same desire
To be a man who loves his home
And gives all he has to another
With safety and intent of longing
Bound joy by my confident promise
To be a man who receives her love
That she may also feel fulfilled
Knowing nothing stands between us
Of that which no other can provide
This is ours and ours alone
And we hid it from the shaken world
But the world lashed out its wrath
At our great secret it could not have
Battle cries and retreating souls
Took me from the path we made
And the one I love lost most of all
From the war which set my soul afire
Though my spirit walks with You my God
I forsook my flesh to ponder all
And I’ll never deny the words You give
Nor the work You place before me
Even now forever am I Your servant
Yet too I must return to rest
For my bones are weary without touch
And my blood boils beyond restraint
Awaken me again to love
Let loose the power within me
For the two are one and one together
As Your gift You gave to us
Awaken me to passion strong
That my interest live again in joy
That we may be spirit and be flesh
And not just one – it’s time for both
Open the door of my secret heart
Saved always only for her
That special place she lives within
Reserved in time my gift to her
There is no greater joy on earth
Than that bliss we share together
Truly it was meant to be our reward
While here a home away from heaven
These things I know You bless my God
And indeed You understand
I thank you for the prophet’s words
Let so too that I may return to flesh
