Remember Our Loved Ones
Time and space fill the hours
Of my blank stare
into the barren land of former life
Where loved ones had stood
And cherished souls grew close
A memory brings laughter
A reality brings tears
An impulse to action springs forth
Without purpose or result inclined
As they we love have departed
I speak to the wind
Pray spirit does hear
I love you, I miss you
You were my friend, my family
There was no one your equal
Do you see us now
From that place you have gone?
Can you hear my love
In the place of your spirits rest?
Oh how I wish to be with you.
Did I give all you needed?
Were you safe in our bond?
Did you know my respect for you?
And my heart sought your company?
Was your life enough?
What can I do to honor you now?
How shall your legacy best be shown?
For the many who have gone
And the many who remain
We frame your life’s soul with love.
While lost in that space
Have I often heard your voice
Like magic I feel your presence
Without contempt I accept
For your spirit is always with me
Alas we return to the moment
In an instant am I deaf
Nothing is the same
No one is the same
We are bewildered and lost
The earth feels insecure
Without the presence of your life
My life feels weakened and vain
Without the sharing of our love
The known before is unknown again
And as we go forth without you
Shall we try to honor you
Shall we hope
Shall we remember
Shall we consider you always
For you have taught us
The very greatest lesson of all
That one to another is all that matters
That nothing else goes with us
That love to love is eternal
Oh the hours that drift on by
Living in the memories you gave me
Learning from the messages you shared
Astonished at your powerful impact
Wishing now to see you
You added to me
And filled me with joy and meaning
You gave to me
And filled me with purpose and love
You were unique in all the world
Mother, Father, Cousin, Brother,
Friend, Son and Daughter
You made me a better man
Just by your very life
And to God I thank dearly, for you.
Until we meet again
