Dad

Father, my father
Who spoke of the world
Who studied the skies
Who planted the fields
Who listened to men
Who dreamed of great things
Who shared what he thought
Who shared what he believed
Who shared what God gave him

In my days I think of you often Dad
And wonder of your adventures now
I hope every time I went stray
You now see with different eyes
I hope every time I did well
You now see with different wisdom

You, my father, who went before me
Establish now the steps of my life
Cease not to be my Father and guide
Nor consider our need of you fulfilled
For in every day and work of this man
Do I seek always your lesson

Look upon the heart of your son
And know that you are well loved
Where emptiness rests from your depart
Have I filled with all your enthusiasm
Where sorrow dwells from your absence
Have I filled with all your care

I am well, Dad, in all these days
And have picked up the work you left
Of that portion have you prepared your son
And for the love of it have I too discovered
But I shall always seek your vast wisdom father
And in all my days, Honor You
