That Stupid Pride

The Deception of Pride Pride blinds us to the truth, whether through arrogance or self-condemnation. It masks fear, creating illusions that keep us from growth, healing, and self-awareness.

Pride vs. Humility True humility is not self-deprecation but an honest acknowledgment of our limitations. By recognizing what we cannot do alone, we open ourselves to wisdom, guidance, and gratitude.

The Power of Choice While we control little in life, we do have the power to choose—between pride and humility, between fear and trust, and between self-reliance and accepting help from others, including God.

Gratitude Over Self-Glorification Life's gifts, including talents and abilities, are not self-created. Recognizing them as blessings fosters joy and appreciation rather than self-centered pride.

Freedom Through Faith Aligning with a higher power removes the burden of control, allowing us to experience peace, love, and purpose. When we embrace humility, pride loses its grip, and life’s true beauty is revealed.

That Stupid Pride

Like so many others
My greatest failing is pride

Pride is the hardest of all things to see in one’s self. It is even is harder to see in one’s self than alcoholism and drug addiction. Pride, like the aforementioned conditions, is often plain as day to others, while the sufferer of it is wholly blind and unable to accept it at all.

This is why the issue of pride, wether inner pride or outer pride, is a daily conscious consideration of mine before taking any steps after waking. Both forms have I been riddled with during the course of my life, because I had many fears which I kept hidden for a long time. I would have to be gregarious and arrogant to hide it. Pride makes this possible as it is a great lie we tell ourselves in order to avoid the truth of what assails us inside.

Pride will cause us to promote ourselves to all around as though we are fine… and pride will also get us to look in the mirror and curse ourselves as bad and worthless for being broken. Both are a lie. Both forms keep us from any healing, recovery or truth. We cannot know or accept or even see a truth… where pride exists.

Pride is founded in fear. The outer pride is made to hide and mask the reality of who we think we are and creates an idol of us more perfect ( in our opinion) that we show others in order to keep them from seeing our self judged weaknesses.

Inner pride is also a lie. For we, who are just like every other human, will look at ourselves and say we are worthless, we are nothing, I’ll never be better etc. Inner pride tells us we must overcome all struggles with OUR OWN power alone… otherwise we are losers. This is a great lie also.

The reality for me is that every day I WILL fail without hope, without purpose, without honesty, without my friends and family’s experience and without a God of my understanding. What I actually have power to do is to choose. Will I seek LIFE or will I try to command it all myself? All other things in my life were given to me, but choice is mine. Sure, even things given to me I have to practise and hone skills, like with music… but music existed before me and the talent for music was given to me. It is not a matter of self pride but a matter of gratitude for music. Yet as we all know, musicians are often overflowing with self pride as though we are little gods on stage. But I never created music, or the notes we hear, or the instruments we play, or the way certain forms are pleasing to the ear, nor did I create the ear. In truth I am just an instrument playing an instrument. And once that truth is known, all pride of music becomes instead a joy and acknowledgement of a blessing for something truly loved in my heart and loved also by most all of us.

What makes life wonderful is the eradication of pride. Honest humility gives us eyes to see. I cannot run 70 miles per hour, but if I use a car I can go that fast. This is honest humility. And by accepting that truth do I instead use a car, and wow we get there fast! I cannot get through a day and see good, see love, see joy, or see what is important without applying this to everything. And this is how it was meant to be, not that I would see how weak I am, but that I would see how powerful and great the spirit of Life is. When I align my spirit with Gods spirit, I am empowered to do things I cannot do on my own at all – just like a car.

The great fact for me is that much has been given to me and to us all by something greater than us. Instead of trying to command and control what was given, we get to enjoy it and see it as a gift. This in turn trickles in and we begin to feel gratitude for even the little things, which tells our heart we are loved by God and provided for by God, even in times of little or nothing. This I have discovered through direct experience. Even when life sucks, we can find peace.

Not sure why I wrote all this – just wanted to keep myself in the sane and humble path of discovering great beauty and purpose in life, rather than self damning pride clouding my own eyes to darkness.

And when we see life, we are not afraid – and pride cannot take root.
