Pride
Name one among us
Of the whole of mankind
From the beginning until now
Who created Love?
Where can we find
The man or woman
Who fashioned Kindness?
Show me the history
Of the flesh who said
“Look at Peace, which I have made”
When was the legend written
Of the day man established Hope
And gave it to his brothers?
Who was the woman
Upon this earth
That first formed Compassion?
Or another of our kind
That made understanding
And is the beginning of wisdom?
Is there one among us
That created thought
Or invented our feelings?
Can even one of us
From day one until now
Say “I am He who built instinct”?
Read me the story of mankind
When one of our own flesh
Forged goodness and evil?
Boasters and Thieves are we
As we wield judgment of such
And claim ourselves of such!
Indeed even ALL great things
And wonderful principles of Humanity itself
Did we humans not even invent!
For the flesh is a mere
Discoverer of the exploration of Life
And an experiencer of death
The mind is a mere
Cataloger of events
And poor interpreter of input
The heart is a mere
Cauldron of desire and want
And a deep well of irrational instinct
What value is the will of man
That it judges all things upon high
Which the will never created itself?
Critics and posers!
Imposters are we!
The false pride of foolishness
Even the spirit of man
Who can say
That they had gave it life?
And when shall any of us
Find the actual source
Of all that is good and great
While we claim
Goodness and Greatness ourselves?
Even they
Who claim darkness and power
Not one of them made either
Nor are any a master of it
Neither do they truly know the pit
Selah
Shut my mouth, oh God
When I boast of my works!
For I eat of the fruit You Produced
And I drink from the well You dug for me.
Throw my pride into the pit of darkness
My Great and Wonderful Father
That I may be Your son
And witness to Your wonders.
Awaken Your Spirit in me
My precious Creator
That I may walk freely in Your Garden
And offend not the Truth.
Sever my mind from its judgment
And heal my heart from its fears
Anoint my soul with your Grace
That all of darkness flees far from me.
For it is the arrogance of my will
And the self righteousness of my desire
That opens the pits of hell to enter me
And lead me astray from all wisdom.
And it is the Truth of Your Word
And the most beautiful Promise of Your Way
That gives everlasting Life and Hope
And the Kingdom of Eternal Joy to all.
For YOU are the Origin of it all
The Alpha and Omega
The One who gave us all things
That we would choose
I choose not to glorify myself
But to Glorify God
I choose not my pride
But take Pride in my Father in Heaven.
