My Two Wolves

The Duality Within The two wolves represent the battle between the flesh and the spirit, not as good versus evil, but as parts of the self requiring balance and guidance.

The Need for Spiritual Nourishment Just as the body requires sustenance, the spirit must be fed daily through devotion, prayer, gratitude, and alignment with God.

The Power of Choice Our greatest responsibility is to decide which aspect of ourselves to nurture—allowing the flesh to rule through fear or strengthening the spirit through faith and wisdom.

God as the Source of Goodness True goodness does not originate from within us but from God, and aligning with Him grants clarity, wisdom, and the ability to love and serve others.

Awakening to Truth and Purpose When the spirit is strengthened, the flesh no longer dominates, leading to peace, love, and a deeper understanding of life’s greater purpose.

My Two Wolves

We have heard it said
That inside of us
Are two battling wolves
One that is good
And one that is evil
And that wolf who wins the battle
Is the one we ourselves feed

This I find most pleasing
And full of wisdom

But I accept that both the wolves
Are actually us
One is our flesh
And the other is our spirit
Though they are at odds with each other
They need not be at war
For though the flesh is predictable
And the flesh is deeply immature
The spirit in us is master of flesh
And can overcome the flesh wolf
If we are fed by the spirit of God
Through daily devotion to Him

I believe not in an evil wolf of myself
But that of a limitation of flesh
Which spiritually
Can be considered evil (reverse live)
As flesh dies – and spirit lives
For our true enemy is not us
Nor is it each other
But a power existing before us
Greater than us
By that we are easily manipulated
And by whom we are truly hated

We can invite that spirit in us
And be thrown down a darkened road
But even those who have never invited it
And had no enemy within them
Still must weigh the two wolves within

We can also invite God’s spirit
And indeed we must, to be at peace
For the flesh takes in energy daily
And the spirit must also to grow
The earth provides for the flesh
And he with eyes of gratitude for it
Also is fed by the spirit of God

Of these two wolves, am I responsible
For on earth and of flesh
Do I have a job to do for flesh
To care for it, feed it, and keep it strong
To create, work, and provide needs
To support community and family
Likewise are humans also bound together

But also on earth and of my spirit
I too have a job to do
And that is to love others, feed them
To offer experience and knowledge
To create beauty and peace and acceptance
To carry a message of hope
To be an example of God’s love
To seek truth, to seek understanding
To hold faith that others may heal
To express ideas about God
To do that work, of the spirit

If I feed not my spirit as I feed the body
Then my flesh wins and rules me
And I care only to answer fear
Lying and cheating to gain for security
Worrying and fretting over tomorrow
With aches and pains of labor

And I am unable to see truth
For the flesh alone cannot see truth
But knows only its wants and feelings
Its own desires and knowledge
This is not of itself an error
As this form was made to be so
And this form is a wonderful machine

We even call it our temple
For housed inside it – is our spirit

When I seek peace, love, serenity
I am seeking God
When I feel peace, love, serenity
I have connected to Gods spirit
All good things ARE God and from God
Whereas all hardship and sorrow
Is either from the immaturity of the flesh
Or the influences of our enemy – lies

When connected to God
Via any means of awe and wonder
Those are moments that take our breath away
And we are humbly witnessing a marvel
Such as a flower, or the night stars
Our spirit is fed
Just as it is through prayer
For prayer and meditation are perfect
But they are not the only path to God
They are not the only means
Of spiritual food
The roads are uncountable

Just as I cannot create a seed
To then plant and grow for food
Neither can I create the spark
Which enlightens my spirit
Yet the seed is provided by God
And I do the work
To plant and harvest and enjoy
Thus also is the spark provided
By God for my spirit
And I do the work by His power
Which is the Holy Spirit of God
Harvesting the rewards of spirit
Which are a much greater food

Therefore I do not condemn one wolf
As evil
For that wolf is my temple
Nor do I praise the other wolf as good
For God is what is good
And gives that goodness to me
If I align with God, and then do the work

Aligning with God is not difficult
For it starts merely as a desire in us
If that desire is true – Gods knows it
And if that desire is false – likewise
I need not qualify or be perfect
For I cannot do perfect works
Such as love, which is perfect
Without Gods power
I need only honestly desire it
And humbly ask God for His direction

Once the spirit is fed
My flesh no longer rules me
And I am awakened to wisdom
Far beyond my own ability
And the work asked of me to do
Is a profound joy and wonder
Joining brother to brother in peace
But just as the flesh needs daily
So too does my spirit need daily
Sometimes hourly
And when the spirit is weakened
My flesh exerts great power of itself

These are my two wolves
And neither are good or evil
Both require power for life
But I may do good or evil
Depending on wether I feed my spirit
For without the spirit of God
Am I left to the ignorance of man
And robbed of the choice
