Loss of Fear
How shall I fear
So that others are satisfied?
How shall I obey
So that others are comforted?
How shall I believe
So that others are convinced?
How shall I perform
So that others are profited?
For our world has pointed fingers
Crying out their decrees
While the people lose their purpose
And the multitudes transform
Oh man of earthly power
How terrible it must be!
For your prowess is a facade
While darkness has its way with you!
Oh man of self religious power
How terrible it must be!
For your spirit is not your own
While another speaks for you
Oh man of financial power
How terrible it must be!
For your god is but a number
While true wealth has escaped you
Oh man of famous power
How terrible it must be!
For your appearance is not you
While your spirit is unknown
Oh man of intellectual power
How terrible it must be!
For your true is false tomorrow
While your riddle has no answer
Oh man of physical power
How terrible it must be!
For your strength delivers pain
While your fellows consider not
Oh man of creative power
How terrible it must be!
For nothing made new is new
While the heart seeks endlessly
These men have I been
These men have I known
These men fall away
And another takes their place
I shall not fear of what men say
Nor shall I tremble at their judgment
For of one brother is there wisdom
And of another is there folly
Still one is full of peace
While another lives in wrath
Is it mine to say who you shall be?
Is it mine to say what you shall know?
Is it mine to say what you will do?
Is it mine to say how you should act?
Is it mine to say what you shall believe?
Is it mine to say who you shall worship?
For any such man speaking for another
Is not a man – but a child
And any such man controlling another
Is not a man – but a coward
Any such man believing only in self
Does not actually know himself
And any such man believing only in man
Will find the grave as any other man.
He who has real power
Gives power – not takes power
For power is Gods
And he who has real life
Gives life – not takes life
For life is Gods
He who has real knowledge
Gives knowledge – not lies
For truth is Gods
He who has real wisdom
Gives wisdom – not hides it
For wisdom is Gods.
Oh man of love
How wonderful it must be!
For all your desire breeds life
While fear runs quickly away.
