Honor Thy Father and Mother

This eye does perceive
My father in my brother
And my mother in my sister

This ear does hear
My father in my brother
And my mother in my sister

This heart does witness
My father in my brother
And my mother in my sister

For they who honor father and mother
Carry their honor of their spirit
Adding to themselves and to all

They who remember their elders
Remember their lessons from them
Holding that which no other has

Who can look upon a man with hate
And later when remembering the man
Be without the darkness of hate?

Who can look upon a man with love
And later when in memory of him
Be without the feeling of love?

Is it that the man created the love?
Is it that the man created the hate?
Is it rather, created in us by us?

For he that I loved, and accepted
Was hated by others and rejected
Though he was the same man!

And she that I hated, and fled
Was loved and cherished by others
Though she was the same woman!

It was not that he was worthy of love
While she was worthy of hate
Before the throne of God

For what God decrees
cannot be opposed

Nor is it that he was worthy of hate
While she was worthy of love
Before the throne of God

For what God decides
Cannot be altered

Ahhh – that it is revealed!
For the judgment of man in man
Is made by man for himself

As that which I seek, I do find
And the door upon which I knock
Is opened to me

For the flesh may love the flesh
And indeed is love shared
Such a bond unlike all others on earth

And the flesh may hate the flesh
And indeed is hatred shared
Such a bond unlike all others on earth

Yet the flesh decides the love or hate
By the perception upon which it is built
That it may build or destroy securely

There is a far greater love
That which is found in spirit
Of which we have heard and been taught

It begins with obedience
It grows with experience
It reveals with understanding
It cherishes with honor

Of such love there is no death
Of such love there is no lie
Of such love there is no bitterness
Of such love there is great wisdom

For when I honor my father
My brother does reveal him
And when I honor my mother
My sister does express her care

And when I dishonour another
My brother speaks lies
And when I judge another
My sister speaks vanity

Though my brother changes not
Am I mislead by my wrong seeking
Though my sister changes not
Am I lost by my wrong judging

How can a spirit be fruitful and blessed
In chains and bondage of self?
It is tho the flesh walks as the dead

How can a spirit be troubled and sore
In the freedom of love for others?
It is tho the heavens open to peace

I honor you father and mother
Truly the light within you was great
For here it is still shining bright
Within your sons and daughters
