Give it to God
Give to God what cannot be won.
We pursue the darkness
We pursue the rage
We battle the war we lost
We get up and do it again
Give to God what cannot be won.
We believe ourselves able
We believe ourselves responsible
We believe ourselves enough
We believe we should overcome
Give to God what cannot be won.
We flee from embarrassment
We flee from facing fear
We flee from love in fear of loss
We flee believing it saves us
Give to God what cannot be won.
Surrender the fight
Surrender to your strong enemy
Surrender your desire to win
Surrender your hope in old ideas
Give to God what cannot be won.
Why should you go on suffering?
Why should your mind create denial?
Why must we prove strength?
Why can’t we see we always failed?
Give to God what cannot be won.
For the power of flesh
Cannot beat the power of spirit
And when our spirits are troubled
Only the power OF spirit can heal it
When we are hungry we need food
And when we are thirsty we need drink
And when our emotions are overtaken
By the power we cannot overcome
It is our spirit that must be fed
Then our spirit must eat
And our spirit must drink
Of the source of life which is spirit
So that our spirit may overcome the flesh
For the flesh suffers but the spirit awakens
Give to God what cannot be won
For when connected to God
Do we connect to the All Powerful Spirit
And we are fed with new food of strength
And given a new drink of faith
Fear not that alone we are weak
Just as gravity overcomes us
So too is the battle we cannot seem to win
But it is of the thinking mind which is flesh
And the emotional heart which is also flesh
These wars we cannot win with will
Nor can we overcome with knowledge
Truly nothing we have tried has worked
Nor has our strength increased with effort
For that which we fail is of spirit
Give to God what cannot be won.
For our oppressor is within
And he hides in our past
To where we cannot see
Though we suffer
This is how it is meant to be
And our effort was valiant and courageous
But we fought a war with will and might
Where our oppression is of our spirit.
Open your spirit to God, it is His war
Give to God what cannot be won
