Brother to Another
Who can be called brother?
Who can be called sister?
If a house divided cannot stand
Than how can it be called family?
For a brother upholds a brother
And seeks ways to justify his brother
If he be a brother
While a sister honours her brother
And seeks ways to justify her brother
If indeed he be a brother
Yet none who strive, do so
Outside the bounds of God’s law
Neither are they above God
Nor are they above the law
For the law of God is love
And he without love is without title
As he who hates his brother
Separates himself from love
So too has he departed from brotherhood
But he who loves the one who hates him
Remains himself within love
And ensures his title before God
As all have choice in who they give love
So too do they themselves
declare their place in God’s family
In God’s family is love
And without the desire to love
Is to be outside of God
This should be clear
For he who chooses to judge
To condemn, to ridicule, to scorn
To set themselves above another
Has declared they are not brother
But that they are judge
In this they themselves departed
And abandoned the Life of God
And she who chooses to judge
To condemn, to ridicule, to scorn
To set themselves as righteous
Has declared they are not sister
But that they are judge
In this they themselves departed
And abandoned the command of God
Yet too shall they condemn all the more
Though it was they who broke faith
Even I – a man of little worth
Have great love for my brothers
And for my family and sisters
Even I – who knows so little of love
Am able to comprehend its meaning
If such a man as I am able to love
A man who formerly harmed all
Then is it made clear
That only our enemies speak against
For they who hate
Seek ways to hate
They seek out the differences of all
That they may point out
Their own greatness
This is because of lack of greatness
This is by lack of power
This is self deception of darkness
For no one seeks what they already have
But he who seeks to love all the more
Dwells in the greatness of God
He has greatness already
There is no need or desire
To seek greatness
For within love is God’s greatness
Resting squarely in heart and hand
And the upholding of his brother
Brings multiplied greatness
As the two rise together in love
So do they both also glorify God
As God’s love glorifies them together
The branches of the tree
Never cease to grow every day
Neither is there an end
To the understanding of love
Therefore seek to love always
And always will more be revealed
In the light of day
Indisputable to your own self
The roots of the tree
Never cease in burrowing down
Neither is there an end
To the darkness one may find
Therefore they who seek to judge
May never fill their wicked desire
In the darkness do they continue
Indisputable to all who witness
Words can be sin and horrible
Actions can be sin and terrible
But not one among us
is without it
If you have known sin
Then you have known
The enemy in your gates
Let us pray for one another
For we have a hope for all
And we are a family before God
Words can be love
Actions can be love
And not one of us knows love
Without God
If you have known love
If you have known peace
If you have known forgiveness
If you have known understanding
If you have known acceptance
If you have known the light of joy
