Pride – the Hidden Sin

Greetings to all brethren seeking our Lord Jesus Christ and His Mercy.

I, a fellow servant of our God and King do humbly beseech you my brothers and sisters to give ear to the wisdom of our Father in heaven.  I do not come to you as one who has risen above the failings of the world, or one who has risen above my fellows, but as one who has also suffered greatly at the hand of my own paths and steps.  (Proverbs 11:12)

For in this, our day to day life, have we all, on some level or another, often overlooked the greatest and most powerful principle of destruction that has ever been faced not only by man, but also by heaven itself.  That principle or idea is that of Pride.

We live in a world where most men and women commend themselves, speaking of their great assets, their great ability and even their pride in themselves, not knowing the destruction to come of their puffed up self appraisal.  For in the day of the Lord shall there be such great truths, that no one will stand before our Lord boasting, instead all kneeling, knowing once and for all that all things came from God and not from man.  All things are because of God, and all things belong to God and not man.

Pride is a principle so cunning, so powerful, that even the meekest of men can fall victim to pride without ever seeking out pride in themselves.  Pride had the power to throw down, deceive  and destroy the great angel Lucifer, who had been given much wisdom and knowledge and honor, almost as High as God Himself.  Yet pride was found in him as he glorified himself, and set about every other sin to follow after him.  If one so great can become deceived by pride, we brethren should not ever think it is a principle we have overcome.   Pride speaks to us in whispers, in the voices of others, in our images and our idolatry of others and our own selves.  Pride presents itself as justice, as righteousness, as truth, as fact and as a jewel that you deserve.  Pride find the places in you meant for natural delight and glory, and distorts them slowly into entitlement, entreatment and false self awareness.  Pride remains hidden to the proud, visible to the humble, and desired by the worshippers of men and women who boast in themselves.  This generation thrives on pride, and this too has engulfed the many churches of God all over the world.

Be not convinced in your own reasoning, for pride is the lie most believed, even more so than the truth of wisdom.  Pride is a lie unlike all other lies, equal to denial of itself, unable to reconcile even itself, which ultimately will bring about the end of itself.  Pride is a crown of thorns, we wear ourselves, believing ourselves beautiful, smart, witty, talented, righteous, great, incorruptible, correct, humble or pure.  Pride in oneself, is the spirit of Satan, and not the spirit of the Creator of life, our Lord God Jesus Christ.

So let us consider a truth.  For all men and women are born as babes knowing almost nothing.  Every gift of our character, spirit and life, is from God who created such things and originated such things.  Not one item worth glory, has originated with us.  We did not form ourselves in the womb, we did not even choose that which we would love or not love, but have come to discover these things through experience of them.  Every talent, shape, height, width, strength, form, intellect, prowess or authority bestowed upon man, was given to man by God, and not from man outside of God.  Not one thing that anyone has had, has now, or will have, is because of their own doing, but because of the doing and choosing and will of God in heaven to instruct our lives through the examples of the talents and gifts He has given us.  For this spirit, did God give many talents, and those talents lead me to God.  Of your spirit, did God give you many talents and graces, and each one for the hope and purpose that one day you will also seek after God.  For before us all is merely two paths, that of life and that of death… and all things we are given in life is for the sole purpose of guiding us to choose either one, and as the tools we will require upon either path.  For if I choose death, my talents will puff up my pride, and take me far in the ways of the world in order to glorify myself unto the day of my own demise, as a rockstar dying in his own addictions, unless through suffering I return to God.  If I choose the path of Life, my talents will guide me to greater understanding and love for all mankind and direct me to the knowledge of God through the very same talents… for they suit my soul perfectly as a man to instruct me and humble me to the grace, love, awesomeness and glory of God who gave them.

We all are a part of the body of Christ, and for each one of us who is given, of that which we have been given is our portion of the work we do in the body of Christ and for all mankind.  For when we hear a beautiful singer, are we not moved in spirit by the sweetness of their voice?  This is not by error, but by design.  Yet the singer did not form their vocals chords, nor create the pathways in their mind required for flawless performances of beautiful music, it was God who did such things.  To God goes the glory.

Yet our Father in heaven, our Lord Jesus Christ, so loving us all, has bestowed these marvels inside each of us, so that we can share in the abundance of the Holy Spirit of Life.  It is like our own fathers, who one day gives to us his works and his home, wanting to share his wealth and legacy with us that we may enjoy it with him and carry it on into the future likewise.  But our Father is Spirit, unwavering and infallible, He will live on forever and ever, and still through love and mercy shares in the beautiful things of life with us and through us, though we are mere men, understanding very little and unproven to be good stewards of such blessings.  Indeed, we can not be good stewards of our own blessings without the guidance, protection, instruction and knowledge of God.  As the son or daughter of God, do we plant the seeds in the garden, do we tend the soil, do we water the crop, yet it is still God who gives the increase and grows the life.  Truly I say, not one success, no not even one failure, has been of our own making, but of the Will of God and the blessings of God, either to fulfill His will through our success, by means of the influence of that success upon the world to the purpose of the coming of all things, or to guide us to Him through our failures and losses by the might of humility to return our spirits to Him, or to sharpen and strengthen the blade of our character in order to prove His flawlessness before our own enemies.

But pride is the assurance of ALL matters of life being taken from us.  With pride are we assured we will lose all things we enjoy, like, desire, and love.  All of it.  For to the extent that we live in the lie of pride, are we also subject to the might of the truth in revealing itself to us until we are able to see it clearly.  Pride will have its way to keep you in darkness, forcing great despair and sorrow upon us in our days ahead.  Yet we need not fear pride, as we need not fear any other lie… for the greater power belongs to the principle apposing pride, that power of Humility.  Humility being the truth of all things, restores all things into the truth, and where there is truth are there also the blessings, mercies, graces wisdom and knowledge of God.  Where there is sin of any kind, is there also pride, for pride is the foundation of sin.

I will shorten my words and say just this.  In everything you find greatness in, give glory to God.  IN everything you find comfort in, give glory to God.  In everything you find security, inspiration, beauty and illumination… Give ALL glory to God who gave you eyes to see, ears to hear and a heart to comprehend the weightier matters of the law of LIFE.  God gave them to you so that you may enjoy them, so rejoice in your youth and in your strength, but give Glory to God.  Jesus Christ our Lord IS the way, and the life and the glory forever and ever… and it was His Will that He would love us as our Father also loved us, and share all things with us as Brothers and Sisters.  Let us not let the pride of Satan deceive us.  Give thanks to God, for He is Good, He who Alone, does great works.
