If This Were So
To some it is unnatural to embrace another
to some it is unnatural to be without embrace.
To some it is unnatural to believe in another
to some it is unnatural to be without belief.
To some it is unnatural for others to be different
to some it is unnatural to be like anyone else.
To some it is unnatural to accept another
to some it is unnatural to judge another.
To me it is paramount to live in the embrace of intimacy
to me it is required that I find something and someone to believe in
to me it is important to celebrate my uniqueness
to me it is life itself to vanquish judgement of another from my mind.
This man is not made by the hardness of his heart
nor the brilliance of his discerning mind
nor the strength of his talents
nor the conviction of principle.
This man is made by the breath given to him each day
and the hunting of the mind
and the willingness to accept love
and the action of sharing life.
For what matters of anything in the place where I shall be made to rest?
Except perhaps what I have given to another’s care after me?
Except perhaps what I have experienced for myself while here?
Except perhaps that I did not live the life another assigned for me?
Except perhaps that those left behind felt free when in my presence?
Except perhaps that the Spirit of Life found expression through me
in the days of my life on earth?
Except perhaps that I loved, and was loved, and did so with a glad heart?
Could it be that the only items we take with us in the place where we shall go,
are those items that we gave while in the place where we are now?
And if this were so…
